"Thrive" is sometimes a subjective thing -- is a plant thriving because it's surviving, or does this require something more?

I'll navigate this, because somehow I always manage to do so. It's not making me feel good, however, though me feeling good is optional -- survival is the goal and everything else is window dressing.
