I'm in shock with what the Texas Department of Public Safety pulled on Tuesday. This is an immediate problem, because my state ID is expired along with it bearing a dead name and gender code. I've been trying to get this dealt with since January, and now they've made what I need done impossible.
I did a massive check on my second longest novel, Deja Vu2: Jamais Vu. This involved a line by line edit making sure every book or album name was italicized and every song title was put in quotes -- single if it showed up in dialogue, double if it didn't. I also wrote a synopsis for it and its precursor, and I've got a stub of an acknowledgements section for the first one. By my calculations, this is going to take fourteen to twenty weeks of weekly editing sessions, and there are other things in the queue before it. This will, however, mean that my (current) second longest novel will be out of editing and on to beta reading and the quest for cover graphics. This one will be far simpler than it's predecessor, but it'll require the design of a logo for the band in the novel. It's also got sidebars, so that'll be a bit more formatting.
I'm working on my third novel in the Holly and the Wizards series. This one is proving to be harder to write thanks to the perspective I'm using for it. I'll be amazed if it reaches novel length, but I've got a short story set in the same universe I can throw in after the shorter work, and I've got ideas for others too. For some of y'all this should be no surprise that I've got more ideas in that sandbox.
Other than that, it's all about staying cool, because, August in Texas -- it's its own kind of thing.
