Well, my school schedule is finally finished. I dropped the vocal Jazz ensemble, and picked up a new percussion ensemble focusing on African and Brazilian rhythms. They'll do about six gigs this semester, including Carnivale in March at the university. It's nice to see the school starting these kinds of things.

I made the second jazz band. I knew in my audition that I wasn't going to get the top band, because they asked me for things I'd never tried to practice.

By dropping vocal jazz, my day got a bit shorter on Wednesday, and the percussion ensemble helped to fill my tuesdays and thursdays a bit more. since I had three hours of dead time between Jazz Ensemble and Recital Lab, I decided that it was a good time.

speaking of Recital Lab, this is my last time to take it. It's a zero hour course music majors have to take seven times. It's graded on a pass/fail basis, and we have to attend sixteen performances a semester, five of which are in the afternoon recital lab time, five of which are other University events, and the remaining ones from either category  or from other places, though they have to be jazz or art music concerts. Well, yesterday, the first day of class, I knocked out three of them. I'll knock out another one on Saturday evening, and one more on Monday. There are two class time recitals next week, and I think two more the following week, which will knock out all my in class ones. I'll probably pick up one more  evening recital next week, and then all I'll have to deal with is the remaining six, which I'll be able to do anywhere. And then, I'm done with it. This is the chore in my music student career I've been looking forward to ending the most.

The classical mythology class slhould be fun, but it would have been nice if they'd had the books in when I went to the bookstore, because I'd have them all scanned by now instead of of having to wait on them. I'll go on Friday to get the books and take the reciept to the ARC to get that process started. I'll have to tell my teacher that I have a delay in getting the matterial.

Last semester, I had my first comprehensive final so far in my career at this university. This semester, I have two classes that will have them. Should be interesting. I guess I've been lucky so far.

I'm already planning for the Fall. If I pass my barrier this semester, then the fall becomes very easy, and next spring will be a pick-up semester where I get to take whatever I want to to fill in gaps of my knowledge in key areas. At some point, I need to take the GRE and start seriously talking to schools about grad programs. If I can make the money work, I'll go to SMU and then take comparative religion courses along with my education courses.

Life is moving along. I find I'm always more up when school is in session. It's probably from the better social interaction I get.
