Birthday Progression
Feb. 28th, 2008 10:08 pmWhen you're under the age of ten, you get a party, presents, and lots of well wishes.
From eleven to twenty, you often get a party with presents, then it trickles down to the occasional present from parents and relatives and possibly the person you're dating, and again lots of well wishes from friends and family.
From 21 to around 30 you get gifts from your spouse or who you're dating, and cards from your family. Some of your friends will call and wish you well, and family members will usually do so as well.
From 31 to 40, you usually get a phone call from family, if they remember. Friends don't tend to say much unless they're really close.
From 41 to 50, you're lucky if you get a call or email from anyone. Friends are usually clueless, and if you're lucky the spouse will get a card. Occasionally you'll get a surprise party, but it's rare. If you have kids, and someone reminds them, you'll get a hug if they're young, a call if they're not.
From 51 to about 74, you'll be lucky if anyone remembers at all. Kids might, a spouse is much more dicey, and friends and family are pretty much totally clueless about it. From then, you can usually expect a party on the big milestones if you've got a lot of friends and family. The next big party you'll get will be your funeral.
