The Studio and Other Things
Jun. 7th, 2008 12:53 pmWell, we got closer, but with the run to Guitar Center, which took far longer than I expected, we came up short. Almost all of the cabling is done. The things that remain are a few things dealing with the studio computer and a couple of other minor things. I wound up using every channel on the 24 channel mixer, though, which is slightly disconcerting, but they're there to be used, so it's not too big of a deal.
The big hole is still the configuration tasks -- getting things configured to handle the right data, and that requires someone who isn't scared off by devices that make a normal VCR look like opening a soda can or putting on undergarments. I still also need to oil the Hammond, and the FX rack is still a big ugly mess. But at least a lot of progress has been made.
Of course, the final step in all of this is to turn everything on and check that it's all working properly and doing what it should. It's all a great big complex task right now. My friend who's been helping me is going to put this on his resume because of how much he's done and learned while helping me out.
J is moving in. On Tuesday night he brought his three aquariums over. On Wednesday he came over to move them to the proper places, and dropped one, half full with water, fish, and gravel... on top of another one. They both shattered, so we had just under 20 gallons of water on the floor with flopping fish and lots of sooty gravel mixed with glass shards. His brain slipped a gear at that point, and it took him a moment to get functioning again. He managed to save all the fish, and also got it cleaned up fairly well, a feat since it was about 10:45 at night in the only room in the house without overhead light.
We had people over last night. This was a lot of fun, and it's something that was impossible just one week ago because M tended to make people uncomfortable in social situations. I've also started leaving the door to the studio open more since there are no cats to claw up the carpet covered things in there and the AC vent in there doesn't draw as well as I'd prefer, so it helps to keep the room cooler.
I have a major test, one dealing with memorization, on Monday, so I'll have a lot of studying to do this weekend. I also have to hopefully go get a second fridge for the place, since four adults and one smallish fridge isn't a good idea, and though we can manage right now with the one we have with three, adding someone else will push it over the limit. Also I have the room, so it's worth it to pick up a used fridge and have the extra storage space.
