What a Day.
Dec. 7th, 2002 02:32 pmIt's already been an intense week. Last week of school before finals, so a lot of stuff was getting done right at the end of things, plus some personal stuff going on that involved a lot of energy.
So I'm really looking forward to Friday all week. A chance to take a breath. Then I get this phone call.
My sister in Law's BP is climbing and won't stabilize, so they're going to have to C-section her 27 week old baby. More news as things progress. I make sure my dad knows that I can be called at any time of the day or night.
At 8:18pm Daniel Andrew is born by Cesarian section at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He's rushed to the NICU and they sew his mother back up. (Yes, the child's initials are DAM -- the DAM kid...)
At present, He's in NICU, his mother is resting and loving that little button, and his dad, my brother, is processing all of the things about being a dad. Daniel will be in the NICU for at least 2 months, while my sister-in-law should be home this next week. I'll go to see them tomorrow, most likely.
Oh, and the kid's vitals? Sagittarius with a Cancer Rising, Capricorn moon. Both Mars and Venus in Scorpio, Mercury in Sagittarius.

Date: 2002-12-09 10:37 am (UTC)Warn your sister in law that they might try to make them pay a double co-pay...They are trying that with us right now.
Good luck being an aunt *grin* my siblings love being aunts and uncles (so far though none of them are planning on having children anytime soon).
Thanks...
Date: 2002-12-09 11:01 am (UTC)And I'll mention the co-pay issue to them.

Date: 2002-12-09 11:03 am (UTC)He's going to need it. We're not a quiet family, and there are a lot of "pickers" in the family that like to root out insecurities by picking o nthem unti lthey get all calloused and hard.
Plus, the initials of DAM will be a nice target for other kids.....
Re: Thanks...
Date: 2002-12-09 03:29 pm (UTC)How much did he weigh? Do they know if there are going to be any complications (I read a lot about this when it happened to me and I would be more than willing to pass on what I learned)

Date: 2002-12-09 04:33 pm (UTC)He is going to be a sweetheart I can just feel it *smiles*.
Congrats to the parents and congrats to you "auntie" *grin*.
I would be more than willing to help someone else go through it. I know it was really hard for me to leave the hospital without mine. She is going to need a lot of support (might want to tell your brother that)
Did she have Pregnancy induced hypertension (also known as Toxemia)?

Date: 2002-12-09 06:24 pm (UTC)She knew that she wouldn't carry him to term. She's been monitored throughout the entire pregnancy by a team of experts to track when it reached a point where she needed to get the kid out of the "oven." They told her that carryingthe child to term, if he survived, would destroy her kidneys.
Her mother is already up from Monterrey, so she has someone watching after her constantly. And actually it is goodthat she's in the hospital because it is giving my brother lots of time to process the ramifications of all of this.

As for your brother, I hope he handles it ok. Being a parent is fun, but it is really hard to parent a child who is in an NICU... It really is harder than I thought it would be.
I wish them the best of luck.
