Harry Potter thoughts
Sep. 19th, 2005 11:20 amI'm not going to post any spoilers, but I did want to post a few thoughts.
Everyone keeps saying how different it is from the previous books. I can see that, especially the way she uses time in the book. In prior books, it was fairly even, with action happening fairly constantly in the book throughout the calendar. In this one, months are skipped as the action is bunched up in places.
R.A.B is actually very obvious, and I can't imagine why Hermione and Harry didn't figure it out pretty quickly.
I don't buy the explanation of who the title is named after. Some things don't jibe with the person's personality and time tables for me, so I wonder why that explanation was vgiven.
Now, I'm going to have to wait a couple of years for the next (and final) book.

Date: 2005-09-22 03:01 pm (UTC)Now, for the fun part. Ms.. Rowling likes the purloined letter concept for answers to mysteries, so here's what I think is hidden here.
Regulus had to get through the same trials that Harry and Dumbledore did. However, having him bring a young wizard with him like Dumbledore did to get past the trial is just a bit too obvious. So, I suspect that instead, Regulus brought some other kind of helper with him. Like, perhaps, a house elf.
And it just seems fitting with the author's style that house elf was Creature 9(I know it's spelled strange, but I've only encountered it on auddio books, because I'm blind...) Since Creature hates Harry Potter, he won't divulge anything unless absolutely forced to do so by Harry, so he could know exactly wherethe locket (and I suspectthe cup as well) is, and will have to tell Harry at some point. Perhaps they were in the house. In that case, it's possible that Mundungus has inadvertently taken one or more of them and sold them to someone.
Oh, I also believe the sixth Horcrux is on Harry's forehead. That too seems a bit obvious for Dumbledore to miss, but it makes sense from Valdemort's point of view. If Harry is to destroy him, he'll have to destroy himself as well to truly ensure that Valdemort is dead.

Date: 2005-09-22 03:35 pm (UTC)It seems plausible that someone leaving a group would do what he could to help the destruction of said group, and in this case, it would most likely be the destruction of the leader that would be the key.
