One Week Down...
Jan. 23rd, 2009 11:08 amOkay, that's the first week down, though I didn't manage to get all my classes since I have a Monday only calss and Monday was a holiday.
Abnormal Psychology is going to be interesting, and if past trends are any indication it will be a fairly easy one, too. Three tests, multiple choice, and a class project, plus ten points for class participation. The teacher, a Ph.D, made everyone take out their cell phones, show them to her, and turn them off, and asked that we do this every class. She's not a big technical person, so we'll not have all kinds of stuff on the online system. But she is very responsive to my needs, so this is a good thing. Also, DSS had a digital copy of the textbook, so they didn't have to destroy a $175 textbook for my class. This is definitely a good thing.
Music Skills is, well, the same as it was last time, though this time I actually made it to the first class. I need to pick a song for everyone to learn from me, but I have the entire internet for it, so this shouldn't be too hard. I have a very good site for this, so I should be able to find something among the five thousand songs there. I'm actually thinking Doo Wah Diddy is a good option, as it's a departure from the "I'll sing a line, you sing it back" formula everyone seems to follow.
Music in Therapy II seems like a very similar class to the Intro to Music Therapy class I took last semester. Same basic format, same style of tests. I'm wondering if she's going to require discussion board interaction again for this one -- I hope not, that duscission board is actually rather annoying for a blind person to deal with, and I don't care for forum messaging anyway. If there was a way to get the silly thing to send the messages to my email box, I'd be happy, and it'd be much easier to deal with all of it.
My practicum is still the one variable in my schedule. It's my Monday class, (4:30-5:20) and it will have outside group work and a practicum session where I work with clients or a group of them. All of the rest of my classes are morning classes, so it makes life far easier for me to deal with this time around.
So, fourteen more weeks to go. I'm a lot more comfortable now than I was a year ago. I'm hoping this is going to be a good semester.
Also, the DSS office got me a tactile map of the campus, at least the things I need to deal with. Buildings I don't normally have any connection with aren't on it. I'm hoping that this will help me more effectively to find my way around.
