Okay, I've hit my major mark -- 100,000 words. That's modern novel length. I've hit all of the marks I wanted to hit, and my proofing is done. My next step, which I'll do when I finish this message, is compile all of the chapters into a single document and then set the formatting. Then it goes out to others who are interested in reading it and proofreading it -- this first pass will go to people who are willing to proof, so the next one can go to interested parties.
I'm happy with how it turned out, and though there's a couple of things I could have added, they aren't important for the story. I've done well in following Chehkov's Law, so there's no loose ends. This will be a stand alone work, as it completes its story with no room for a sequel.
I learned a lot from the process, and I now have a much better idea of how to move forward with more writing. Now I have to read a lot of books on writing screenplays, as I have a little comedy I need to knock out that's been waiting since early 2005 or so.
I think I'm in a good position now to start looking for publishing. I have enough written that I can present a fair portfolio of work.
