Freedom?

I'm listening to one of the Rich Dad books, "Rich Dad's Prophecy," in which Robert Keosaki is explaining about a rather bleak financial future for America when the boomers retire. And right now he's talking about the classic political conundrum, security versus freedom. We all know the Ben Franklin quote, so I'm not going to repeat it here. But this got me thinking.

we're in Riaq for security. That entire war is about global security, not freedom. We've become a nation of security freaks, and our drive for security, to feel safe, has resulted in vast losses of freedom. Now we think it's okay for searches at airports that previously would have happened only in Russia or some other totalitarian regime. We think it's reasonable for a police officer to require that we show ourr identification upon demand, no matter if we're doing anything wrong or not. We think it's perfectly normal  to have ourr lives under scrutiny to the point that we'll tolerate everything we buy being marked with a permanent tracable identifier. This is the realm of a security state, not the land of the free.

When those bastards slammed airplanes into buildings, they made us afraid. They brought fear into the mix, and we're quivering in our homes, scared to death. Our life has changed dramatically. They changed us, and that means that, all posturing and rhetoric aside, they have laready won. We are now one nation under fear, with security and protection for all. (Though the protection is fleeting -- Gonzalez vs. Castle Rock proved that the security we feel is false.)

You know what? I don't want a bunch of metal detectors on planes. I want a bunch of armed people who have CHL's on the plane with me, so if any lowlife terrorist bastard or bitch tried anything, they grow a whole lot of air holes really quick. I want any predator to fear for their life when they see an American, because that American just might be carrying their death in a shoulder holster or carry purse. I want the rest of the world to know that if you cross America, we're not going to hide in our homes, we're going to eliminate you, and it's not the government of the United States that is going to do it, but the people themselves, because we don't have to take it and we won't. It's time for the people to stop being a bunch of whiny titty-babies and start standing up for our freedom.

Of course, this isn't going to happen. Much of America today is content to let the Washington Teat nurse them along. (BUt not in Florida. They no longer have to run from conflict, and I suspect we'll see another big drop in crime there. After all, the Supreme Court has told us that the POlice are not required to protect us.)

I know that I'm in a sometwhat different position, as I've never been a big seeker of security. I've always been more interested in learning and experiencing new things. But unless we do something about the way this nation is headed, we can only look forward to decline.

Please
