Status Report
Jan. 10th, 2008 05:12 pmWe're mostly moved. We have a few more trips on Saturday, then a general cleaning of the place. We're not going to bust our butts to get it spotless, since the landlord is going to have to have to paint and clean the carpet anyway, but we're not leaving it a sty either.
I really like the new place, but I feel disjointed because I'm in two places at once and I need to get the rest of my stuff here. Since I got robbed two times while moving the last time, I'm a bit concerned about leaving the place without someone watching it, so I'm sending out protective energy on the place until we can get back there to get it all cleaned up and emptied day after tomorrow.
I'm having purchase order problems. The two PO's the state Division of Blind Services sent out got eaten by zombies on their way to their destinations, so I'm having them fax them out again. One of them is for my books and the other is for the guitar I'm getting for my lessons. Since this instrument is a tool I'll need for my job when I get certified, (some people think I should have been certified a long time ago, but that's a different kind of certification) I'm getting a Seagull Maritime. It has a nice wide neck so I have room for my long piano playing fingers to maneuver on it, and it sounds nice. I'll also get a capo, stand, case, gig bag, strings, picks, and a strap for it from this, and if I can get them to waive the tax, (I have a recording studio, and they're tax exempt for things to be used in the studio) I'll also get them to throw in a cable and a Pignose amplifier for it.
The next challenge is getting to my 8:30 class on T-Th. The bus system, called Denton Connect, is a misnomer, since they have some rather interesting disjunctions in their schedules. The bus stop closest to me arrives at the hub five minutes after the one to school leaves, and they run about hourly. I'll have to walk an extra block to get to the place where I can wait for forty minutes for the right bus. Fun. And I can't even get a bus ride home after my Tuesday class, since it ends at 9pm and the busses don't run that late. So I'm going to have to make friends really quick or wait a couple of hours for the roommate to get home from work.
But the new place is cool. My room has the furniture in place now, and I'll hang pictures this weekend or next with some assistance. I've got the DVD's on their shelf, and the CD's are next, and the kitchen is shaping up. I need to get help staining the table base, then put the game table together. We've decided that we're going to find prints for that room of dogs playing poker and cats shooting pool, as it'll fit the spirit of that room perfectly.
We will need to get furniture for the living room -- a sofa, area rug, some chairs, and a big television. I also need to find a six foot equipment rack for the studio, chairs for the game table, and a child gate for my room to keep the canines in it. (Mostly Nappy, since Guardian could jump it but he stays restrained most of the time when not working)
Tentative plans are for the housewarming party to be on the first weekend of February, but we'll see how it all goes with getting moved in and finding furniture. My goal is to get rid of as many boxes as quickly as possible, as I don't want to do the classic six months of unpacking normally involved in a move.
