New Band...
Jun. 24th, 2009 11:31 pmThose of you who know me well know that I'm something of a music fiend, and my standards are quite high. It can't be just some random pop or rock creation with no depth to it to get my attention, that's why I hose a music production yahoogroup and spend my time really listening for good bands that really get my attention. I don't find many.
Yesterday I was trying to find 40 tracks to download so I could get my allotment at emusic and then close my account. I did a search on Genesis, thinking I might find a live concert or something. Instead I got the page saying they didn't have any, and to try these other groups. I tried the first one, and was knocked out. Deep textural lines with smooth vocals, powerful guitars, and pulsing basses and great drumming. A band that sounds like a cross between Pink Floyd, Focus, and Ozric Tentacles. The lead vocalist sounds like someone I've heard before, but I can't place who. He takes his time getting the words out, and the music is both rhythmically complex and also deeply layered so that subsequent listenings bring out new things you didn't hear the last time.
The band is Porcupine Tree, and they've been around for a while. Emusic has a lot of their stuff, and if you decide you want to go there and get it, let me know, because if I send you an invite we both get 50 free downloads. The site will also let you preview tunes, and I am quite impressed. I'm keeping my membership until I get the rest of this stuff, I'm so pleased with it.
