The Return of Big Smoke
Feb. 26th, 2012 08:17 pmSeveral years ago I got involved with an online RPG that has very little rules.
Big Smoke is a game set in modern day London. The residents of the shared living space are in their early to mid 20's for the most part, just getting started with life, and trying to work things out while also keeping from killing each other. (This has been less successful an effort at times in the past) The game went static in 2007 after many years of activity. (it started in 2000) But renewed interest in getting the game started again has spurred conversation.
I had a blast playing a character who was a burgeoning record producer and another character who was a Chinese spy running a safe house in the building, and I'm going to play again, this time with a very different character. It's fun just to spectate, but even more fun to play. If this sounds like something you'd like to either watch or participate in, respond to this message and I'll get you the info of where to subscribe to the mailing lists.
I use this as a creativity exerciser, because I've found that creativity needs regular exercise to remain supple and able to respond quickly to changes and new situations. For those of you who enjoy my writing it's also a place to witness that as well. And for those interested in writing it's a great place to work with characterization.
Hope to run into some of y'all there.
