Electile Disfunction
Jun. 2nd, 2008 04:17 am"None of these three are getting me aroused." Quote from the head of GM
First off, let me say this. I'm deeply offended by the group of Hillary supporters who think that anyone who doesn't support her is doing that because they don't like strong women. I'm also deeply offended by the Obama supporters who feel that anyone who doesn't support him is doing that because they want to keep the black man down. Reducing either of these two to a single issue position is duplicitous, arrogant, and just plain wrong. I don't support Obama because I have concerns about his inexperience, and I don't support Hillary because I have concerns about her ethics and her integrity. I also find her supporters' constant reliance on procedureal challenges and nitpicking details to be in poor taste, and proof of a pettyness of mind that makes me seriously question the motive here. Furthermore, I have some fundamental concerns about the Democratic party's support of the second amendment.
But the other side of the fence isn't much better. Listen to McCain's ads, and we're all going to be living in utopia in four years if he gets the win. uh, no. Furthermore, I have integrity issues about him as well -- do the words "Keating Five" mean anything to you? And while I have concerns about the Democratic party's support of the second amendment, The Republicans don't have that good of a record in regarding the First amendment. Come on folks, do you actually know what the document you swear to uphold has to say? The Federalist Papers are still in print, this isn't some big mystery, read the supporting documentation, or at least, the document itslef. It's not in Swahili.
In many ways, I think the fighting on the Democrat side is giving a big advantage to McCain. Waiting till the convention to work things out doesn't give much time for the final campaign, especially since McCain has had no obstacles in his party to his nomination for several months now. This is just like the advantage a sitting president has in the process, and dethroning a sitting president when he doesn't want to bail, (Like Bush sr did) is rough. In recent history, it took the failed presidency of Carter and Ford's constant lame duckness to make it happen.
It's a shame we don't have Hunter S. Thompson around to comment on this race. His insight and sense of humor is sorely missed this time around, and his skewed perspective always made the race more fun to watch, if nothing else.
