Inflammatory Topics
Aug. 31st, 2009 06:36 pmSo at lunch today, a very good friend of mine asked me what my opinion was on the topic of abortion. I looked at her and said, "Before I answer that, what are your opinions on ED drugs? Do you think Lavitra, Viagra, or Cealis." She of course said she has no opinion on them, because she would never need to use them. I pointed out that since I don't have a functional womb, that is exactly my opinion on Abortion. Then she asked me what it would be if I had a womb that could bear children. I told her that I would have to be in that situation to know how I'd react, but I suspect I'd prefer that I had the choice to make instead of having it mandated to me.
Yesterday I re-read the Harlan Ellison story "Neither My Jenny nor Yours." I did this because I'm thinking of turning it into an opera. So the topic was fresh on my mind when she brought this up today.
I honestly believe I cannot make an informed decision on this because it isn't my body on the line, and that it's grossly assumptive to make that decision for those who have that as a consideration.

Date: 2009-09-01 02:03 am (UTC)She's dating a guy she just started dating. Problem is, for her, that she's also got a major crush on someone else, she's had her sexuality turned on again so now her Bi-Curious tendencies are flaring up, and she's got a very close friend who has been in love with her for about a year. (That would be me) So things are interesting to say the least. Oh, and she also just dropped her Masters program. So life is interesting to say the least for her. And for me.
And of course, this is the first semester where I haven't had my life revolve around the music building. It's highly weird for me in that respect, too.

Date: 2009-09-01 04:02 am (UTC)But yes, you are missed. Got a joke for you. Two Basses walk past a bar. No really, it *could* happen.
LOL
Date: 2009-09-02 05:32 pm (UTC)That's great! If you had said Tenor, the joke would have been ruined, because it actually *would* be possible.
Wait, so *I* know this abortion person? If so, I've probably given her the speech I so love to give women who ask me that- and it probably pissed her off for weeks. Go me ^_^

Date: 2009-09-02 09:39 pm (UTC)When someone gets aggressive with the whole question, I hit them with, "The needs of the host outweigh those of the parasite." That usually stops the conversation, because I am from that point on a monster in their eyes.
Oh, one more thing...
