Amazingly enough, we made it by the deadline.
At 12:30pm-ish today I started the gruelling signing moment where I put my name or initials on about an inch of paper to take ownership of my house. It's mine. (Mine! Mine! All Mine!!!) I'm happy and relieved, and very soon I'll have to file the exemptions with the central Dallas Appraisal district to get my disability and homestead exemptions and to get hte tax value of the house adjusted down to the appraisal value. And sometime later in the week I need to talk with my insurance agent and find out what the reality of my policy is. Plus I need to start shopping for a home warranty company -- I've heard good things about some, not so good things about others, so I want to get one of the good ones.
Whew, glad this is finally done. I've been working on this for the past three years now, so it's a relief to be finished with it.

YAY!
Date: 2012-12-31 11:14 pm (UTC)I got your message, it's just been really busy for me.
My home warranty company is American Home Shield and I've had generally good experience with them.
Most of my co-workers use another one but I can't remember the name of it.
