"Hallaleuyah Friday's Here"
Jul. 2nd, 2021 09:43 pmI've been digging into bands I loved back in those halcyon days known as the early eighties, with a focus on ones I haven't heard in a while. This is part of my return to listening music a lot more now that I've got the energy and attention span to listen to music while also writing or checking emails. This is also because the novel I'm letting rest a bit before I dive into proofing it's massive length (no, I'm not going to descend into erotica here, even though that is *such* a trope of that genre) takes place in that timeframe and I name a lot of names in the music industry. So I'm also picking up the occasional CD too.
This is the final track on Quarterflash's self-titled album, "Williams Avenue" and it caught my attention. Yes, this is 1981, though it doesn't sound much like that far back. What it does sound like is a song that I'm having to fight to keep from putting on repeat and listening to it over and over again. And it's also a great Friday song. It's not one that charted, so it might be a bit obscure, but it's got some great horns on it including Rindi Ross on sax (like all their stuff) and a cool guitar solo. (I like that clean compressed tone with a touch of reverb) Enjoy, and feel free to let me know how it hit you. I've got ideas for more of these types of songs, both hits and deep cuts.
