Gentle Reminder
Feb. 8th, 2002 08:29 amOkay. Enough. Let's recap.
1) I don't even dream that everyone on this stupid ball of dirt likes me. In fact, The fact that some specific people that don't like me is a sign to me that I'm on the right track -- if they liked me, I'd wonder if I was doing something really wrong.
I lose not one Iota of sleep over people who don't like me, and this is especially true when talking about people on the Internet. I have no illusions that the Internet is a place for polite discourse. On the contrary, it is a place that enables the most pissant nincompoops of our society into thinking that they might have something important to say. (And yes, I sometimes include myself in that definition, so don't bother trying to tag me with that.)
2) There is no reality. Only perception. Anyone who insists that anything besides their self awareness exists is delusional. Read Descartes if this is unclear. By extension, just because someone says something is one way does not mean that is the way ANYTHING is outside of their cranium. Truth is a three edged sword.
3) When someone draws a conclusion about something, that is not a reflection on the events, it is a reflection on them. Period. If someone tells me that Lady Cujo (An example -- this does not reflect any one person) says I'm the greatest person in the world, It has NOTHING to do with me -- It is all about their perceptions. Ditto if the aforementioned person thinks I'm a rat bastard.
Furthermore, I refuse to base my self identity on what others think of me. I saw a lot of people when I worked at the State Hospital who had that problem.
4) I have quite enough to deal with right now without having to deal with the people who don't understand the way I am. Moreover, I could care less about their disapproval. I'm not going to tag them on it -- that would be both stooping to their level and also giving energy to something worth none. Besides, I'm someone who is very patient. It'll all balance out in the end.
5) Anyone who ascribes a motivation to me without having met me or discussed it with me is obviously an idiot. Stop wasting people's time and find a civil engineer specializing in bridges.
6) I consider the source. People known to be argumentative for the sake of such are welcome to do that all they want, but don't expect me to enable your entertainment. And people who spend large amounts of time pointing fingers and saying "He's Crazy," or "She's obviously out to get me" shouldn't expect their opinion to matter much to anyone. Move along, Next window, nothing to see here.
7) I am arrogant at times. I can be pompous. Perhaps I am a bit elitist as well. And I am absolutely intolerant of any type of "Dropped on your head once too often" mentality. I am very often an asshole. And I'll be damned if I'm going to rubber stamp someone else's spew to make them feel better or because of someone else's misguided feelings of loyalty. Don't like it? Fine. There are over 6 billion other people who you can go to to get that warm fuzzy if you need it. If my perspective on life doesn't agree with you, have the brains and the balls to stop inflicting me on you. If you cant deal with the asshole, keep away from the cheeks.
8) That said, my perspective on life is merely the way I see things now -- it is always up to modification based on whatever new input I get at any given moment. Convictions make Convicts. As a result, I'm not too overly attached to any of my perspectives on life. If you're willing to state your position to me, without being a jerk about it, I will listen openly and honestly give you my thoughts. Don't preach to me, though.
This should all be crystal clear by now. Questions?
