Cut Tags and Journals
Mar. 21st, 2003 11:26 amIn general, I dislike cut tags. What are Cut Tags, you might say? Check out http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75 for a detailed explanation.
They're used to hide part of a message from the regular viewing screen, either on the user's journal page or in a friends page listing. For someone on dial up, they can be the spawn of the devil (whatever that is) in most cases. There's nothing more frustrating than checking a friends list and seeing a bunch of cut tags with little one sentence intros that pique your interest, knowing that you are going to have to navigate like a Mississippi riverboat pilot to find out everything.
However, there is an exception. Quizzes. Many of the online quizzes come from a site called Quizzilla. And their quizzes give you code to paste into your journal that calls up a graphic from their server. A dial up user wilt wait forever as it downloads 20-25 graphics on a friends page from Quizzilla, thereby bogging or at least slowing down Quizzilla's server, and making it take WEEKS to see the page. With the quiz results behind a cut tag, it only means downloading one graphic, which happens much faster.
So please, use the cut tag on quizzes. It makes everything easier on those of us who reach the Internet verrrrrrrry sloooooowly.
