I will have only fifteen to twenty one hours to go on my degree after this semester. This sounds like a good thing, but it's actually a problem.
After a meeting last week involving my degree plans, the faculty discussed the moving forward, and came up with some reccomendations. the problem is that several things I'd already resolved with the prior Director of Jazz Studies didn't get documented, and so I find myself with things I've acted on now being totally for naught.
But the more frustrating thing is that they're setting things up so that several things are going to have to be done linearly for me to get my degree. This will most likely add an entire year to my degree plan. And since I have so few hours left, this causes a really big problem. I'll spend at least three semesters stacking electives on like cordwood to make my hours I need for a financial aid full load.
Or....
I've always thought about going for another degree track when I got my doctorate in education. I find Psychology interesting, and I seem to have a knack for it too. I'm going to be meeting with the psych advisors on Wednesday to see what we can put together. I'll have to take a lot of foreign language, and speech, which scares the crap out of me. (funniest damned thing. I can get up in front of people with a musical instrument, even just my voice, and nothing fazes me. Get up to speak, and I'm absolutely scared like an armadillo on I-35.)
If I go this route, then I'll probably have another two years in Arlington at the very least, but that will allow me to graduate with a dual degree consisting of a B.M in Jazz Studies and a B.A. in Psychology. On the down side, I'll still be in the city when the construction for the Pig Palace begins, so I'll have to deal with the nexus of stupidity along with the traffic problems as they rebuild the intersection at Collins and the Landry Freeway.
A lot to contemplate.
