Boom!

My main machine crashed. Catastrophically. On Friday, just to add insult to injury as I was busy horking up my entrails, it froze in the middle of an email, and a reboot didn't light the monitor or post -- no beeps to be heard.

I'm hoping it's a failed video card. A failed drive would be a headache of epic proportions as I have things on it I still needed to save up to the network.

Even a dead motherboard wouldn't bother me too much, as I could use a replacement one anyway. It's a 2.4GHz machine with 1GB of Rambus memory, so an upgrade wouldn't hurt my feelings too much. I'm just hoping it's not the hard drive.

However, that said, I'm probably looking at a full OS reinstall for it. Fortunately I have my disks and registration number somewhere around here, and I almost even think I know where it is.

I have the laptop, savior that it is, and if worse comes to worse and the drive is okay then I can move the old hard drive into a USB IDE box and access stuff that way. I need to upgrade that drive anyway, as who'd ever imagine that 30GB isn't enough to load an OS. (Wasteful in the extreme)

If anyone sent me email on Friday and I didn't return the message, resend it, as it's probably sitting on that hard drive. I may be able to recover it, but it might take some time.

Annoying, that.
